Borders, Thursday night at 9:37 pm

Who is the very last person I would ever want to see while perusing the "What to expect when you're expecting" section of the bookstore? (I am planning a coworker's babyshower, by the way.) Your ultra-ultra conservative, Saudi Arabian bible study partner from 6 years ago. Never have I ever done a 180 spin faster and more obviously.

Now, onto the other highlights spotted tonight:

Honest Abe.

I must study politics.

"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain."

Buy-Nothing Week

It is Day 2 of my self-imposed "Buy Nothing Week." Things that I am permitted to buy: gasoline and things that will advance me professionally (such as a manicure ... right? please?)

No eating out, no drinks, no purchased coffee (worst!) and no random Target trips, that gigantic, wonderful money-sucker.

Things I need to far:
- a lip balm, as I lost mine.

Day 1 was very successful. No real urges. I was, however, coerced into buying lunch for the boy, as he forgot his credit card at home. So, that doesn't count. A coworker bought me a coffee yesterday (without my asking!), and today is free coffee day at Coffee Bean, so I'm in luck so far.

Fingers-crossed.
